Grundkurs November 2010Our last course of the year, a Specialised Advanced Training Course focussing on hysterectomy, took place from 1st – 3rd November 2010.  All 12 participants successfully completed the MIC II course.

As always, the participants had ample opportunity to implement on models and animal organs the new insights obtained in the live surgery sessions.

A selection of lectures was given, based on the topics and operations covered during the course.

The visit to the university’s medical historical museum to inspect the pelvis collection of Michaelis and Litzmann was well received.  This unique collection, started by Prof. G. A. Michaelis and extended by his successor Prof. C. Th. Litzmann, comprises deformed pelvises of women who died after complications at childbirth in the Kiel birthing house between 1825 and 1885.  The works of Michaelis (1851) and Litzmann (1884) initiated a new era in obstetrics in which contracted pelvises were studied in greater detail, their aetiology reviewed and a more extended classification introduced. These publications led to the reputation of the Kiel women’s hospital increasing beyond the borders of Germany.

Congratulations to the following colleagues on the successful completion of the course:
