Indo-German Training Course 2010
This year the Kiel School’s annual Indo-German Training Course in Gynaecological Endsocopy took place from 6th – 18th June. Altogether 40 participants took part in two training courses, one in gynaecological endoscopy and the other in reproductive medicine. Live surgery, lectures and practical training sessions took place every day. Highlights of the course were the hands-on demonstrations in the Institute of Anatomy and the series of lectures on the Saturday.
The live operations could be observed either in the operating room or via direct transmission in the training school. A range of laparoscopic procedures were performed, including different hysterectomy techniques, particularly for large uteri; endometriosis treatment; myoma enucleation, with reconstruction of the uterus and the application of adhesion prophylactic agents. The exchange and discussion which took place between and after the operations was lively and informative.
In the training school the participants made full use of the 12 conventional pelvitrainers, including a trainer for the single-port technique. The trainees had ample opportunity to practise suturing techniques and coordination skills on models and animal organs. In the Virtual Lab the participants were able to train the different steps on the virtual hysteroscopic simulator. The new skills could then be put into practise on the pigs’ hearts in the hysteroscopy training centre.
On Saturday morning a series of lectures was held with international speakers. The lectures covered a wide spectrum of topics from “Techniques for the prevention of complications” to “NOTES”. Numerous social activities took place outside of the hospital, including a sailing trip on the Baltic, a trip to Berlin and a farewell gala dinner.
